Why this Quote Helped Me Stop Procrastinating

Feb 20, 2022 | ✉️ Newsletter

Hi friends,

Some of you already know that I’m great at procrastinating. That’s why this week I was a little bit proud of myself, because I finally picked up something I had been procrastinating on for a couple of weeks.

I started cold calling again 🙌🙌

In my case that meant making phone calls to potential customers or collaboration partners that did not previously express interest in my products or services.

Why? Because recently, I’ve been feeling that I’ve been working on the same kinds of things behind my laptop, alone. A lot. I decided that I want to get out of my comfort zone and find different kinds of collaborations, so that I can both learn new skills and deepen the ones I already have.

The Universe Rewarded Me 🙏

What’s funny is that it wasn’t half as bad as my brain made it out to be beforehand. It was great actually. I had many nice phone calls with interesting companies that I’d love to work with in the future.

What’s even funnier, is that out of nowhere I had some of those companies calling me. There is this quote from the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho that I love:

“When you really want something, the whole universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”.

I was attracted to this quote from the moment I read it, but I didn’t fully understand it at the time. The way I interpret it now is that when you make up your mind about something and share it with the world – through your words or your actions – the world reacts.

And what happens next can be quite unpredictable. Sometimes it can feel downright magical.

Like, what happened to me is that the moment I got off my first ‘cold call’, I was called by a number I did not know. It turned out this is a learning experience company that had some leftover office space available to turn into a coworking space. In other words, they called me for something entirely different, but we still ended up scheduling a meeting for what I was making the cold calls for.

I just took it as a sign from the universe that these cold calls are a good thing.

Here’s to many more of these serendipitous moments in the week to come! Enjoy it 🙂

Cheers,

Marc

What I Loved this Week ❤️

📽️ Movie – You can only get a movie recommended so many times until you just have to watch it. For me this week, it was the Netflix original: The Tinder Swindler. It’s about a guy who used Tinder to defraud women for millions. Fascinating to watch!

⚙️ Software – For a while now, I’ve been trying to find a tool that makes it easy to RSVP for an event and immediately show the updated guest list afterwards. We’re currently testing Airtable for our next KREW event and it works like a charm.

🥊 Sports – I got a gym membership at Fit for Free and I’ve been having a lot of fun trying out all the different group lessons that are out there. Never thought Cardio Boxing (essentially “air boxing”), something called FunXtion and Group Core workouts could be so much fun. Next to my ongoing Sunday kickboxing session with my brother and friends, that is.

Weekly Creation ✍️

In case you missed my article from yesterday, I just want to share this video again from 5 years ago. It was my first video project ever, which I created to learn how to make videos and to have a showcase for potential clients.

It’s soooo funny to rewatch this now and see how far I’ve actually come. I’m more than happy to let you join in on the fun.
